Will clay scratch the car? Yes, if you don't use enough lubricant. As the clay moves over the paint, it picks up iron fallout and other particles. The lubricant cushions those particles so they don't grind a second scratch into the paint. So the lubricant isn't an optional add-on to the clay, it's the other half of the same tool. Spray both the paint and the clay during application, and re-spray the moment the surface dries. Don't work it dry.

How to use it
- Dilute the lubricant first. Don't go weaker than 1:10.
- Spray the diluted lubricant evenly over the paint you're cleaning and over the clay itself — both need it. Most people only spray the paint.
- Glide the clay lightly over the paint to clean it.
- Re-spray as you go. The moment the surface dries, spray more, to keep from working it dry.
- When you're done, rinse the paint clean with water.
Things to know
- The lubricant and the clay bar are a set, not an option: the clay picks up grit and dirt as you work it, and without enough lubricant those particles will scratch the paint.
- The dilution limit is 1:10. That's the maximum, not a suggested ratio. Go weaker and you have no lubrication at all, and the clay drags iron particles straight across the paint.
- Never work it dry. Spray more the moment the surface dries.
- Spray both the paint and the clay. Spraying only the paint isn't enough.
- Don't use plain water as the lubricant. The water film is too thin, and once the clay picks up particles, it's like dragging sandpaper across the paint.
- No ingredient list or Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is provided for this product, and the pH isn't listed. Wear gloves, keep the area ventilated, and avoid prolonged skin contact while using it.
- If it splashes into your eyes, flush immediately with plenty of water and see a doctor if you feel discomfort.
- Store in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight and heat, and out of reach of children and pets.
FAQ
We strongly recommend it. Some owners use car wash soap instead, but it doesn't lubricate nearly as well as a dedicated clay lubricant, and it tends to foam up while you're working, which throws off your feel for the surface. A dedicated lubricant is cheap. It's not worth cutting that corner.
Using plenty matters more than getting the amount exact. If the clay starts to drag as it slides, lubrication is running low, so spray more right away. Better to use more than you need than risk scratching the paint.
Yes. Claying glass needs just as much lubrication. This product is safe on all surfaces and leaves no residue on glass.
